Renée Zellweger Shines in ‘Judy’!

Best known for her roles in Bridget Jones Diary, Jerry Maguire and Chicago, Renée Zellweger has outdone herself in the portrayal of silver screen icon Judy Garland. Ms. Zellweger’s astonishing physical transformation is only secondary to her embodiment of the all too real struggles that plagued Judy throughout her life. Turbulent relationships, financial disarray, addiction, and depression all emanating from her fractured Hollywood upbringing. It is no wonder that Judy’s life was tragically cut short.

“I’m one of millions and millions through the generations who fell in love with her (Judy Garland).” – Renée Zellweger

With an oftentimes cheeky disposition, Zellweger perfectly portrays a woman battling many demons. Yet, Judy is still a woman that finds the strength to fight for her children and the courage to take the stage and perform for her audience. It is Zellweger’s showstopping vocals combined with performance flair that showcase Judy’s undeniable perseverance. Even during several lamentable moments causing the audience to be ‘less than receptive’, Judy pressed on.

Synopsis (Roadside Entertainment)…

Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer pizzazz of “the world’s greatest entertainer.

One of my fondest memories growing up was watching Judy Garland’s portrayal of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Dubbed one of the most extraordinary talents in entertainment history, I only knew very little about her life and career. Judy provided me the opportunity to reflect on the ‘realness’ behind this beloved star and Renée Zellweger brought forth an impassioned relatability to her life. Bring tissues!

“There was no one else who had the ability to sing, act and be comedic in that way. And by good fortune,
Renée was the same age as Judy at the time she gave these London shows,” David Livingstone, Producer Judy

Congratulations to the multi-talented Renée Zellweger for leading us Somewhere Over the Rainbow. 😉 Click your heels three times and be sure to check out Judy hitting theaters this weekend!
