We have to admit that Netflix’s upcoming anthology series, Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, sounds like one fun musical ride. The eight-episode series will find each installment telling the story of a song by the iconic country singer, and they have just found their Jolene in Julianne Hough (Grease Live!).
According to TVLine, who revealed the casting news, Heartstrings “showcases the stories, memories, and inspirations behind Parton’s most beloved songs with each hour-long episode tackling a different song with a new cast.” Hough’s episode stars the actress as Jolene, “a flirtatious free-spirit with aspirations of escaping her small hometown” and becoming a famous singer.”
The episode will also star Parton as “Babe, the owner of a local honky-tonk bar where Jolene works as a waitress.” Nashville’s Kimberly Williams-Paisley will play Emily a “local wife and mother” while The Walking Dead and Insatiable’s Dallas Roberts will play “Aaron, a husband facing a midlife crisis.”
Julianne Hough certainly showcased her incredible dancing abilities on both Dancing With the Stars and 2011’s remake of Footloose, but she has also shined vocally in both 2012’s big screen adaption of Rock of Ages and 2016’s Grease Live! on Fox where she starred as Sandy. We think that she is perfect for the role!

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
