Fans of workplace sitcoms should know that when Mike Schur and NBC are floating around in the same sentence, something fantastic is coming. Schur, who is the brains behind popular NBC hits such as The Office, Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has a new series on the horizon thanks to a pilot order starring Harold and Kumar’s Kal Penn.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series, which is currently untitled, would follow a “former New York City councilman named Garrett Shah (Penn), who finds his calling when faced with six recent immigrants in need of his help and in search of the American Dream.” Penn will co-write the pilot with Parks and Recreation and The Good Place writer Matt Murray. The pair will also serve as executive producers alongside Schur.

Currently, on NBC, Schur is serving as showrunner for Kristen Bell’s beloved series The Good Place and executive producing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which just recently moved to NBC from Fox. On top of this pilot with Penn, Schur also has a new workplace comedy premiering in the midseason with Abby’sStarring Parks and Rec alum Natalie Morales and The Middle’s Neil Flynn, Abby’s is “set in an unlicensed bar in San Diego, where the regulars enthusiastically enforce a unique set of rules that give them a sense of community and allow them to avoid the frustrating behavior found at other establishments.”
