Lawrence Fishburne Lets Go of Perry White Role

Laurence Fishburne does not think that he’ll return to the DC Extended Universe.

Although the actor is popular for his role as the editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet, Perry White, he recently switched roles in order to star as Bill Foster in Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp. Fishburne doesn’t sound hopeful that fans will see any more of his Perry White despite the number of actors who have played in rival universes.

Fishburne made his debut as Perry White in 2013’s Man of Steel and returned again in 2016 for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He told Den of Geek that he wasn’t able to film any scenes for Justice League, and says it almost cost him the role.

“I don’t think I’m still on call. I was unfortunately unable to go do some work on what turned out to be the Justice League movie. I don’t know that I need to go back or if they’ll have me back or not, but I was grateful to have been a part of it.”

He spoke about working with the DC film creator, Zack Snyder but says he’s happy with Marvel right now.

“I loved working with Zack [Snyder], I think he makes an incredible superhero movie. I’m just excited to be a part of this [the Marvel Cinematic Universe] now.”

Warner Bros. as a coouple DC films in the pipeline, including Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984. They also announced a Nightwing and Joker origin film. None of these would likely include Perry White, so this may be an organic change.

For now, Fisburne can be seen as Bill Foster in Ant-Man and The Wasp. It stars Evangeline Lilly, Paul Rudd, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Judy Greer, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Walton Goggins.
