Marvel Comic Number 1 Sells For Record Price

Marvel Comics number one, the first comic ever produced by the comic book giant, sold for a record $1.26 million at auction. According to Heritage Auctions, which handled the bidding of the comic, said it was the most that anyone has ever paid for a comic book.

With a 9.4 rating from CGC Universal, it is the finest known copy of the comic book in the world. The comic came out on October 1, 1939. The first characters introduced were the Human Torch, Angel, Sub-Mariner, and the Masked Raider.

The news release stated that it was originally purchased by a mailman in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, soon after its release in 1939.

Ed Jester, the auction house’s Senior VP, said that, “This is a historic copy of a historic comic book.”
