Sebastian Stan Addresses Possibility of Taking Over Captain America Role

Sabastian Stan stands by the fact that he hasn’t discussed the possibility of acquiring the shield when Chris Evans steps down from the role of Captain America.

The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently, and claimed that there haven’t conversations about Bucky Barnes following Steve Rodgers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Cap. “It’s usually like a dream. People might mention something, but we never go that way.”

Although he very well could be telling the truth, he isn’t in a position to say anything yet, because Bucky was turned to dust by Thanos in Infinity War, and we don’t actually know the deal with that until we see Avengers 4.

The character would do the same as he did in the comic books, when Bucky famously becomes Captain America after Steve Rodgers dies. The Winter Soldier has been taken on his own journey in the MCU with adopting the white wolf moniker.

There is a deleted scene from Civil War which showed Anthony Mackie as Falcon and Bucky passing the shield around, and Bucky says, “I’ve got to get me one of those.” Both of those characters take a turn as Cap in the comics at one point or another.

Since 2011 and Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America has been Chris Evans has been in the MCU. He went on to play a huge role in the rest of the 3 Avengers films. He has made it pretty clear, though, that this will be his last film as the iconic hero. Recently, he tweeted about wrapping on the film, saying,

Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios is silent when it comes to the MCU’s future to avoid giving anything away. There are more than 20 movies planned right now in the franchise.

The untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 3, 2019 and is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
