Meet the Man Behind the Mutants in ‘Chris Claremont’s X-Men’

Fans of the comic book realm know that the best heroes in pop culture history are characters who have a real story to tell. It’s not all bravery, power, and theatrics; sometimes it’s just who they are at the end of the day, when the battle is over, that makes them so heroic.

That was the story with the X-Men and the brains behind the operation that saved the once failing franchise. It took an underdog team, a man with an idea and more importantly, a passion to bring these characters to life in a way that mattered.

‘I’m not writing superhero adventures, I’m telling the story of these character’s lives.’

Those words were spoken by Chris Claremont in an extended documentary titled Chris Claremont’s X-Men and you can see it all on VOD February 6th.

In the documentary, you’ll see what saved the X-Men and how Claremont’s own upbringing helped bring a second life to these unlikely heroes with his two original collaborators. A press release for Chris Claremont’s X-Men reads as follows.

‘Chris Claremont came to Marvel as a young man, and was assigned a book that no one else wanted, a book on the brink of cancellation: X-Men. Over the next 17 years, his work on the title turned it into the biggest franchise in comic book history. Forty years later, his work has been adapted into ten films, three TV series, countless video games and has become a part of our cultural mythology. But, it all started with one writer and his commitment to emotionally honest storytelling and real character building.’

While Claremont didn’t create the X-Men, he is the driving force that led to the incredible journey the characters have taken. Through comics, television, and film; the X-Men have solidified their place in pop culture history and Claremont’s hand played the most necessary role in that.

Don’t miss your chance to ‘meet the man behind the mutants’ on February 6th on video on demand.
