Merritt Wever to Star in a New Comedy Thriller Series at HBO

Two-time Emmy winner Merritt Wever has booked her next television role! The Walking Dead alum is set to star in HBO’s Run, a new rom-com thriller from Killing Eve’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Vicky Jones. Wever joins Star Wars’ Domhnall Gleeson who is already set to appear in the series as well as Waller-Bridge who will have a recurring role.

According to Deadline, Run will center around Ruby Dixie (Wever), “a woman living a humdrum existence who one day gets a text inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact, promising true love and self-reinvention, by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame.” Her character synopsis reveals that Ruby is an “American family woman who functions like clockwork, but feels like a fraud. Having packed away her younger self for the sake of other people, she is finally taking steps to reinvent her path.”

Run will be produced by Entertainment One, which also worked the cable-giant on Sharp Objects. Jones and Waller-Bridge will act as executive producers. The series will be written by Jones.

Wever won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series last month for her role on Netflix’s Godless. It marked her second win after she took home the award in 2013 for Nurse Jackie. She had a recurring role on AMC’s The Walking Dead and guest-starred on Fox’s New Girl as well. She is currently back at Netflix filming the upcoming miniseries Unbelievable alongside Toni Collette. The series tells the true story of a teenager named Marie who was charged with lying about being raped and the two female detectives who follow a twisted path to figure out the truth.

Run joins a quickly growing roster of new programming for HBO including Danny McBride’s religious comedy The Righteous Gemstones, an adaption of The Time Traveler’s WifeZendaya’s young adult series EuphoriaThe Watchmen, and a Game of Thrones prequel. House alum Hugh Laurie is also set to star in a new sci-fi Comedy pilot titled Avenue 5.
