Michael B. Jordan to Play Tom Clancy’s John Clark in Paramount Franchise

John Krasinski may be taking over Amazon as Jack Ryan, but Michael B. Jordan is gearing up to step into another role from the popular Tom Clancy universe – John Clark. Paramount is set to adapt Clancy’s 1993 novel Without Remorse and 1998’s Rainbow Six for the big screen with Jordan stepping into the lead role.

John Clark made his first appearance in Clancy’s 1987 novel The Cardinal of the Kremlin where he served mainly as a secondary character helping Jack Ryan until his origin story was introduced in Without Remorse. The character is a former Navy SEAL and director of the elite counterterrorism unit Rainbow Six. Ryan has been played on the big screen twice before by Willem Dafoe in 1994’s Clear and Present Danger and Liev Schreiber in 2002’s The Sum of All Fears.

Jordan is set to produce the first film, Without Remorse, alongside Akiva Goldsman, Josh Appelbaum, and Corin Nemec. Paramount is currently on the lookout for writers and directors.

The films mark Jordan’s second franchise after Creedwhich has its second installment hitting theaters this Thanksgiving. He did appear in the Fantastic Four reboot, but due to lackluster reviews and earnings, that film didn’t quite make it to franchise status. He recently starred as the villain Killmonger in Marvel’s Black Panther and while his character’s fate looked grim at the end of the film, the chances of his return to that potential franchise shouldn’t be counted out. He will also be appearing and producing the upcoming Netflix series Raising Dion, which centers on a single mother named Nicole and the relationship she has with her young son Dion who begins to have magical and supernatural abilities following the death of his father Mark (Jordan).
