Mike Myers is Still Considering a Fourth ‘Austin Powers’ Film

This is very groovy baby, YEAH!  Nearly 20 years after Austin Power: International Man of Mystery premiered in theaters, the cast and creators gathered together, along with The Hollywood Reporter, to create an oral history of the film.

The Austin Powers film series contains 3 films to date: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002).

Comedian and actor Mike Myers reflected on the upcoming 20th anniversary of the film, and how his father’s death inspired the creation of the film and its characters.  Of the inspiration he gained from his father, Myers said:

“After my dad died in 1991, I was taking stock of his influence on me as a person and his influence on me with comedy in general. So Austin Powers was a tribute to my father, who [introduced me to] James Bond, Peter Sellers, The Beatles, The Goodies, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

I wrote it in 1995, and the bones of the script came out in two weeks. It was one of those things where I didn’t know if anybody would get this movie who didn’t grow up in my house. But when I showed it to [director] Jay Roach — we had met at a party and become movie buddies — he gave me 10 pages of typewritten notes. Everything he said made it better.”

Throughout the lengthy conversation, the cast continues to reminisce and tells of some behind the scenes stories and fun tidbits.  When film director Jay Roach brings up the possibility of a 4th film, Myers adds in his take on the idea:

Roach “We have talked about [making a fourth movie] for 15 years. We have also always said we don’t want to do it unless we came up with something that lived up to the concepts in our mind. Until Mike feels like he has a concept that earns a fourth, it won’t happen. But if it did, we have all agreed that we would be delighted to get back into it.”

Myers “I would love to do another, but you just have to see. I was devastated by my father’s death. But to have that turn into something that makes people happy is unbelievably satisfying. It’s that kind of stuff you never get used to or get tired of.”

So, with the International Man of Mystery himself on board, a 4th installment to the franchise seems completely possible, as long as, as Roach said, the right concept for the film is developed first.

What do you think?  Do you think 4th Austin Powers film would be totally shagadelic?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
