‘Mr. Robot’ Star Rami Malek to Play Freddie Mercury in Queen Biopic
Fresh off of his 2016 Emmy win for Best Actor in a Drama Series, the Mr. Robot star Rami Malek is setting up to play one of the most iconic figures in music history.
Malek will be taking on the role of Freddie Mercury, famed front man of Queen in the upcoming biopic on the band entitled Bohemian Rhapsody. Sacha Baron Cohen was initially cast as Mercury however, dropped out of the film over creative differences in 2013.
The biopic has been in development for quite some time but with the announcement of Malek as Mercury and Bryan Singer (X-Men) reportedly in talks to direct, the project really seems to be gaining some speed and moving forward.
The biopic is based on a screenplay by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything) and will have Brian May and Roger Taylor, both original members of Queen, serving as music producers.
