NBC’s Previously Cancelled ‘Timeless’ Will Return for Two-Part Series Finale

Hey Clockblockers, Timeless has been saved again!

Last month, NBC made the heartbreaking announcement that the series would not be renewed for a third season leaving fans hanging in the balance of a major cliff-hanger ending. The cancelation marked the second time the network had axed the series in as many years. Last year, NBC’s announcement of cancelation was met with a fierce outcry from fans pleading with the network to save the series. Just days later, the network announced its change of heart and renewal of the series for a second season.

Naturally, when the announcement of cancelation came in June, fans once again rallied to try and save their favorite show. Once again, it worked, but with a condition. While the series is returning and fans will be able to get closure regarding the events of the season two finale, the reinstatement of the series is not permanent.

NBC and Sony Pictures Television announced on Tuesday that Timeless will be returning for a two-part series finale which will be set to air during the holidays.

According to a press release from NBC, Timeless executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke say that fans can expect to experience the show they know and love in the final two-part finale. In a statement, they said:

[row]“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of ‘Timeless,’ this is the next best thing. We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast, and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support, and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”[/row]

Lisa Katz, Co-President, Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment said:

[row]“We’re excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story. A huge thank you to all – our cast, crew, producers, and partners at Sony – who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week.”[/row]

The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnjić, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.

Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke are the creators, writers and executive producers. Tom Smuts and Arika Lisanne Mittman are co-showrunners and executive producers. Don Kurt, Greg Beeman, John Davis, John Fox and Marney Hochman also executive produce.
