Netflix Announces When ‘Stranger Things 3’ Will Premiere

Good news and bad news Stranger Things fans! The good news is we finally know when the third chapter of the drama series will be hitting Netflix. The bad news is it won’t be until next year. While at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Netflix confirmed that Stranger Things 3 wouldn’t be premiering until Summer 2019. While that’s certainly a lot later than fans would like, the Stranger Things team are taking their time to make sure it’s just as cinematic and enjoyable, if not more, than its previous seasons.

[row]“It’s a handcrafted show. The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right,” Netflix’s VP of original content, Cindy Holland said. [/row]

Netflix had hinted at the delayed premiere date earlier this month when they released a teaser video highlighting a new shopping mall in Hawkins that would be “opening” next summer. While it could have been taken as a hint that season 3 would be taking place during the summer, it looks like fans were right in assuming that meant the release date was going to be then as well.

Earlier this week, Shawn Levy mirrored Holland’s comments when he spoke to Bad TV about how they’re raising the bar higher than they’ve ever gone before.

[row]“We are working on the third season very quickly, and I can also tell you that it is by far the most ambitious season ever made, and I want to underline it: it is by far the most ambitious! We are on another level. I can not go into the specific but as you saw the second season has become more cinematic, much more based on the characters than the first and this evolution will continue with the third. It will be the season with more action than all.”[/row]

The season 2 finale of Stranger Things hinted that Hawkins could soon be consumed by the Upside Down and while there haven’t been any plot details released yet, we don’t think that Will, Mike, Dustin and the crew will be able to keep this whole Demogorgon threat to themselves for much longer. Stranger Things 3 will also find Princess Bride star Cary Elwes and Starship Troopers star Jake Busey joining the cast in addition to Little Women‘s Maya Hawke.

From executive producers Mike and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things also stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Fin Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin. Are you excited to head back to Hawkins for season 3 next summer?
