‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Casts its Charles Manson

Quentin Tarantino’s new upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has found its Charles Manson! Damon Herriman, best known for his role as Dewey Crowe on FX’s Justified, will portray the infamous cult leader in the film.

From Sony Pictures, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes place in Los Angeles during 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore, but Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor – Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie). Tate was famously married to Roman Polanski and was pregnant with their first child when she and four others were brutally murdered by Charles Manson’s (Herriman) cult followers.

Earlier this summer, we got our first look at the aesthetic of the film with a photo of stars DiCaprio and Pitt sporting some seriously killer 60s outfits. Shortly after, the first image was released showing Margot Robbie embodying the essence of actress and model Sharon Tate.

In addition to Herriman, DiCaprio, Pitt, and Robbie, additional casting includes Burt Reynolds, Dakota Fanning as Manson family associate Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, Al Pacino, Damian Lewis as iconic actor Steve McQueen, Emile Hirsch, James Marsden, Tim Roth and Timothy Olyphant (who also starred in Justified along with Herriman).

The film is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and is his ninth feature film overall and will be set against the backdrop of the 1969 Tate murders. Georgia Kacandes is executive producer while David Heyman and Shannon McIntosh produce along with Tarantino as well.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hits theaters on July 26, 2019.
