‘The Greatest Showman’ Duo Are Writing New Songs For the Live-Action ‘Aladdin’
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul may have just lost the Oscar for Best Original Song to a Disney movie, but they are certainly still big winners in Disney’s eyes! The uber-talented songwriting duo, who are the musical geniuses behind the award-winning soundtracks for La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen, and The Greatest Showman are taking their expertise to Disney’s new live-action Aladdin!
Live footage of us hearing this news:
The pair teamed up with Disney powerhouse Alan Menken to write two new songs for the upcoming Guy Ritchie film, and with Menken’s eight Oscar wins, including 2 for the music in 1992’s Aladdin, and Pasek and Paul’s recent win for La La Land, it’s a sure bet that these new songs are already destined for greatness. They announced the news at to Variety at the 90th Annual Academy Awards this past weekend.

“We’re really thrilled that we got to collaborate with one of our heroes Alan Menken. We collaborated with him and wrote the lyrics for two new songs for Aladdin that’s coming out next year. … We’re really excited for that, and really thrilled to be a part of the Disney family.”
The upcoming Aladdin reboot will star Will Smith as the Genie with Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine. The film wrapped early this year so hopefully, we will be graced with some teasers and footage coming up soon, but it still is going to be a long wait before the final product hits theaters in 2019.
What do you think of the news? How perfect at Pasek and Paul for the world of Disney!?
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
