A set of new anime series are headed to Netflix, including one based on Pacific Rim, and another based on Altered Carbon.

Netflix also announced its plans for a slate of family-oriented animated series from creators of Finding Dory, Moana, and Inside Out.

The notion of a Pacific Rim anime has been rumored for a long time, especially when the film originally hit theaters on July 12th, 2013, and it’s sequel this year. Director Guillermo del Toro has been open to the idea from the beginning.

This new anime follows a pair of siblings who search for their parentsin an abandoned Jaeger. Showrunners will be Craig Kyle (Thor: Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (X-Men: Evolution).

Guillermo Del Toro just wrapped DreamWorks animated Trollhunters series, and he will be directing 2021’s Pinocchio as well as a horror anthology for Netflix.

As far as the Altered Carbon series goes, Richard K. Morgan’s world will “explore new elements of the story mythology.” The live-action series will continue with new star Anthony Mackie to follow the next story in the  saga, Broken Angels.

Last year, Netflix announced that it was spending $8 billion to make its library consist of 50% original content. This included 30 animated shows in 2018, which brought up its number of young viewers, completing with Crunchyroll and Amazon.
