Paul Rudd Continues His Hilarious History of Trolling Conan O’Brien

UPDATE: Paul Rudd did it again! Read below for more details. Please note, this article was originally published in June 2018.

Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters nationwide this weekend and we can’t wait to see what stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily will bring to the big screen! Before the movie hits theaters this weekend, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take a walk down memory lane and bask in all the glory that has been Paul Rudd’s hilarious appearances on Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show.

Rudd’s appearance on Conan’s show always starts out as any other talk show interview would. The two engage in small talk and quirky little interesting anecdotes about Rudd’s life before getting into discussing whatever television show, film or project he’s promoting. As with most film promotions, Rudd always brings a clip or a scene from whatever his current project might be to share with Conan and his audience. This is where the hilariousness comes into play in an epic practical joke that has been going on for over 15 years!

Rudd never actually brings a full clip of the project he’s promoting. Instead, he essentially lures Conan into a false sense of trust before unveiling an epic action scene from one of the most incredible films in cinematic history! Ok, so we’re lying a bit about the epicness. Rudd brings with him a bizarre and pretty terrible scene from the 1988 film Mac and Me, and, well, the results are just hilarious!

Mac and Me is a movie about an alien (Mac, short for Mysterious Alien Creature) who comes to Earth and befriends a boy in a wheelchair. Together, the two search for Mac’s family so he can go home. Sounds strikingly similar to another alien feature film from the 80s, doesn’t it?

When the studios got wind that Rudd was replacing their teaser footage with this Mac and Me clip, they weren’t exactly thrilled. As a result, Rudd’s trolling stepped up to a new level which included showing a few brief seconds of whatever film he was promoting followed by this ridiculous clip.

If you haven’t seen a Paul Rudd interview on Conan, you are missing out! Take a look at just some of the clips showing Rudd’s epic trolling on the Conan O’Brien show below and make sure you head to the theaters this weekend to see Ant-Man and the Wasp!
