‘Pokemon Go’ Halloween Event Will Most Likely Introduce Gen 3 Pokemon

Last year, Pokemon Go gave us a pretty fun Halloween event where the spawn rates for Ghost-Type Pokemon and other festive Pokemon (Zubat, Meowth, Cubone, etc) got a boost in spawn rates. Though that was a year ago, not long after Pokemon Go first came out. So where do we find the game as it nears its second Halloween Event? On the cusp of releasing Gen 3 it seems….

News of this first was first hinted at a few weeks ago when The Pokemon Site said the following:

“Ghostly Goodies in Pokémon GO

The Halloween season is a special time in Pokémon GO. Plenty of good stuff is coming to the game later this October, and we can’t wait to get out and about to see what sort of excitement we can scare up while catching new Pokémon to fill out our Pokédex.

Stay tuned for more details about Pokémon GO’s Halloween event coming soon!”

Did they actually mean “New Pokemon” or do they still assume that trainers aren’t close to completing their Pokedex? Well a couple months ago, we saw that Gen 3 Pokemon data was added to the code and now some new datamining info from The Silpha Road points to “new pokemon”. According to the post, all the needed Gen 3 files are in the game aside from new moves and the implementation of abilities (although those can both be added at a later date). After all, Gen 3 did introduce the idea of Pokemon abilities. Though why are we so certain that Gen 3 will be released with Halloween Event? Well, the new loading screen wallpaper gives it away.

Duskull, Dusclops, Sableye, Shuppet, Bannette (all Gen 3 Pokemon) are clearly visible in the art as well as what appears to be a trainer wearing a Mimikyu Hat. Now seeing at Mimikyu is a Gen 7 Pokemon, if this is a thing in the game, then it’ll just be an out of place hat item. ALTHOUGH it could also clarify some of the Gen 3 Release.

Releasing all of Gen 3 for Halloween would overshadow the ‘spookiness’ of the event, so what if they just released the Ghost Types first much like how Pokemon Go hinted at Gen 2 with the egg Pokemon. That would actually make loads of sense and be a big enough update while still being able to softly release the rest. After all, Gen 3 had a bunch of new Ghost and Ice Pokemon, so this is the season for those releases.

Finally, we don’t know if the Halloween Event will include more XP, Stardust, Candy or even a Sale; but there is still one other important addition to the game that fans will love: a new audio file for playing at night during the event. The theme is a remixed version of the original Lavender Town theme and it is absolutely spooktacular! Give it a listen below – or not if you want to keep it a surprise. Either way, see you soon Trainers!
