Rainn Wilson to Star in ‘Utopia’ Series at Amazon

There’s nothing wrong with spending your days binging The Office on Netflix, but pretty soon you will be able to flip over to Amazon to see Rainn Wilson taking on a completely different role. According to TVLineWilson will headline the streaming service’s new series Utopia from Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.

The nine-episode drama series, which will be adapted from a UK version, “centers on a group of young adults who meet online that are mercilessly hunted by a shadowy deep state organization after they come into possession of a near-mythical cult underground graphic novel. Within the comic’s pages, they discover the conspiracy theories that may actually be real and are forced into the dangerous, unique and ironic position of saving the world.”

Rainn will be playing Michael Stearns, “a once-promising virologist who has lost his edge. When a nationwide outbreak of a deadly flu arises, Michael offers his expertise, and soon finds he has landed smack in the middle of something much bigger.” According to Deadline, he joins Gotham’s Corey Michael Smith who is playing Thomas Christie, “a Christie Laboratories employee who tracks down the only copy of the graphic novel for less than benevolent reasons” and Cougar Town’s  Dan Byrd who is playing Ian, “a guy who craves a more exciting life and embarks on a mission to uncover the secrets of the graphic novel.” American Honey’s Sasha Lane has also been cast.

Wilson is best known for his role on the US version of The Office where he played the lovable doof Dwight Schrute for its entire run from 2005-2013. He has since appeared on Star Trek: Discovery, Adventure Time and The Meg.
