Rami Malek Looks Exactly Like Freddie Mercury in the First Photo from ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Biopic

When news broke announcing an upcoming Queen biopic in the works depicting the life and music of one of the most iconic and recognizable frontmen in the history of the industry, it was clear that the casting for this role had to be 100% perfect.  Afterall, it’s not just anyone in Hollywood that could embody the charisma and talent which came so naturally to the iconic Freddie Mercury.

Mr. Robot star Rami Malek was up for the challenge and on Tuesday, we got our first look at the star as the Queen frontman.  Appropriately enough, Tuesday, September 5th would have been Mercury’s 71st birthday.  He sadly passed away in November 1991.  We’ve got to admit, Malek looks absolutely spot on in this photo! The biopic titled Bohemian Rhapsody has been in development for quite some time with Bryan Singer (X-Men) onboard to direct.  Based on a screenplay by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything), the film will have Brian May and Roger Taylor, both original members of Queen, serving as music producers.

The musical components of the film will feature a combination of Malek’s own singing voice, actual recordings of Mercury and a sound alike in order to fill in any sound gaps.  Malek commented on the recording process by saying, “We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible.  I’m in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”

Singer commented on his approach and vision for the film saying it won’t be your typical biopic.  He said, “It won’t just be the dark Freddie story, but that being said, that also will be honored.  It’s about collaboration. It’s a celebration.”

The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is set to hit theaters in December 2018.  What do you think of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
