Ron Perlman wishes David Harbour “nothing but the best” in his new role as ‘Hellboy’

Earlier this month, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola announced his plans to reboot the film franchise.  Upon announcing his plans to remake the Hellboy franchise, Mignola also announced that Stranger Things  actor David Harbour would be title on the title character role.  Fans had mixed feelings regarding this announcement mostly because, once you have an iconic role played by one actor, it’s difficult to imagine anyone else in that same position.  To many, Perlman is Hellboy.  Also, the announcement of a reboot pretty much made it official that any hopes for development of a third installment to the original film series was killed.

Originally created in 1993, the Hellboy comic series centers around a demon summoned by the Nazis during World War II from a portal to a paranormal dimension.  Years later, the demon is all grown up and is serving as an agent to protect America from dark and evil forces.  The first film in the franchise was released in 2004 and starred Ron Perlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones.  A sequel to the film was released in 2008.  Though there was discussion regarding the possibility of a 3rd installment, the film was never materialized.

Perlman, who has always been a huge supporter of developing a Hellboy 3, spoke about the film during a panel at Motor City Comic Con this past weekend.  Perlman said:

The third one was meant to be epic and conclusive and a resolve for all these, almost, Greek oracle promises of the destiny of Hellboy. It would’ve made for a really good movie, I think.

We are sure fans would agree, it would have made for a great movie!  Perlman also spoke about the upcoming reboot, specifically about Harbour taking on the role.  Perlman graciously endorsed the Stranger Things star by saying:

David Harbour is a good dude. I wish him nothing but the best when it comes to the retooling of HB.

Always a class act and displaying nothing but the utmost of professionalism!  We’d be remiss to say that we would have loved to see Perlman in the Hellboy role one more time however, we have no doubt that David Harbour is, in fact a “good dude” and will do the character justice in the upcoming reboot.
