Rosario Dawson Signs on For New USA Pilot
Luke Cage’s Rosario Dawson has found a gritty new drama to sink her teeth into! The actress has just signed on to star in a new USA pilot titled Briarpatch. The series is based on the novel of the same name written by Ross Thomas and is being adapted for television by Legion’s Andy Greenwald and Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail.
Briarpatch follows “Allegra “Pick” Dill (Dawson), a Washington investigator who returns to her corrupt Texas hometown after her homicide-detective sister is killed by a car bomb. Allegra’s search for the murderer turns into a dangerous excavation of her own past.” Dawson will also serve as a producer on the project.
If Briarpatch was to be picked up to series it would join a lineup of original programming including Jessica Biel’s The Sinner, a new series in The Purge franchise, Colony, and Suits, which is about to enter a new season without series leads Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle.
Recently, Dawson has appeared on Netflix’s Marvel universe as Claire Temple in Luke Cage, The Defenders, Iron Fist and Daredevil. She has also been recurring on The CW’s Jane the Virgin. In film, Dawson is currently working on an animated film called Henchmen with James Marsden, Nathan Fillion, and Jane Krakowski.
Did you read Briarpatch? What do you think of the new series?
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
