Sarah Paulson Teases New ‘American Horror Story: Cult’ Details

The specifics surrounding the plot and character details for the upcoming American Horror Story: Cult is being kept as a pretty big secret.  Not much detail has been shared aside from a few teases.  Series creator Ryan Murphy revealed the official title for the season last month at San Diego Comic-Con.  In the weeks leading up to that announcement, Murphy had been posting teaser images to his Instagram account and earlier this month, we were treated to some pretty creepy character posters but, other than that, we haven’t heard much regarding the plot.

At Wednesday’s Television Critics Association press tour presentation, series star Sarah Paulson teased some major details relating to her character and one other character on the show.  Reporters present for the tour had just finished visiting part of the set for the upcoming season when Paulson dropped the teaser.  She said:

“There are two women married to each other in that house, but who are they?”

Paulson then pointed to herself, acknowledging that she would be one of those women and then pointed to the newcomer to the series Alison Pill before saying, “It’s me and Alison.”  Pill responded with a playful, shocked reaction which poised Paulson to quickly add, “That may or may not be true.”

So was this all just a big tease or did Paulson reveal some true knowledge regarding the upcoming season?  We’ll have to wait to find that out for sure.  We do know what Murphy has been teasing a season that will have to do with the presidential election and President Trump however, it now seems that the season will be geared in a slightly different direction.  Executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall said at TCA

“I would say honestly that when Ryan had made the announcement originally that the season would deal with Trump, it’s more about what’s going on in the world around us.  We talk about the streak of paranoia, and a lot of it launches from that. It’s not what you think it is. As with all good horror and suspense, knowing less is so much more. But it’s an element in our launch point.”

One thing’s for sure, this season is setting up to be a creepy and crazy one!   In addition to Paulson and Pill, the season will also star  Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Colton Haynes, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Lena Dunham, Adina Porter, Mare Winningham, Frances Conroy, Chaz Bono and Leslie Grossman.

American Horror Story: Cult will premiere on FX on September 5, 2017.
