Scott Gimple Teases a big Announcement Coming to ‘The Walking Dead’ Family

Fear The Walking Dead aired its season four finale on Sunday night, and as always, Talking Dead followed and gave fans some insight on it.

This week was a little bit different, because Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple, and show runners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg were there to discuss everything beyond the TV series world.

Chris Hardwick asked Scott to clarify his new role at AMC. There was little confusion when it was announced a few months back that Angela Kang would be taking over as show runner. Gimple had been showrunner for five seasons. Some fans were happy about this, because they didn’t like where he was taking the show. Really, Scott Gimple was promoted to oversee both shows, and still has a lot of say in what happens. Regardless, Angela Kang really has some amazing work to show off on season 9 of The Walking Dead, so it worked out either way.

Scott mentioned the confusion and said that some viewers would come up to him on the street and say “I’m so sorry about your job that you lost.” Here’s what he said on Talking Dead Sunday:

“I work on both shows. I help these gentlemen, I help Angela Kang. We work on the stories together, I consult on the episodes as they go through, and producing.

The most intriguing part of his statement was his tease of some big news that we should expect, which he has also been working on:

And then beyond that, working on the future of The Walking Dead. And per that, we’re gonna have something to discuss. We’re gonna have a family meeting, all of the Walking Dead fans — people who haven’t watched the show, people who are going to watch the show — we’re gonna talk about something really big soon.”

So what could this big news be? Perhaps more about a possible The Walking Dead movie? Or could it be to elaborate on the lifespan of The Walking Dead? Recently at the Goldman Sachs Communicacopia Conference, the CEO of AMC, Josh Sapan defended the show’s decreased ratings by saying it would be here for a decade.

The Walking Dead is a universe. And we have a plan to manage over the next decade, plus. That plan is a careful plan to respect the world of the fans of that world.” He said.

Perhaps it’s more news on the departure of Andrew Lincoln or Lauren Cohan, who are both set to leave the series in the first half of season 9. There were recent rumblings that Lauren Cohan would be back sooner than later. Also, Andrew Lincoln is set to come back this season to shadow directors…or so they say.

As far as when the announcement is coming? New York Comic Con is this weekend, and the cast and crew of The Walking Dead are slated for their annual huge panel at Madison Square Garden. If we had to guess, that’s where we will hear this big news. We will be there to bring you that and the rest from the panel, live!

The tease was vague, so the best advice we have, fan to fan, is to be ready for anything.
