Scott Hamilton on Ongoing Cancer Battle ‘It Loves an Encore’

Scott Hamilton is a gold medalist, a motivational speaker, an author, and more than that – an absolute inspiration. You know him by his wins, by his story, and by his voice. Just hearing him speak is calming and that, in turn, is due to his voice, but also because of his spirit. For a man who has been through so much, he’s never asked why me…never allowed himself to be broken, he may weaken, but he gets stronger, fights harder, and comes out on the other side with a new blessing.

Scott has been in the news for the last two days due to his most recent brain tumor diagnosis, on his pituitary gland, but also because of his calm demeanor about the entire situation. Scott says he feels blessed, and that this time, he can stop and think, look into options, and then make decisions when that time comes. It’s not a situation that’s come to knock him down and tear him apart. So he’s listening ‘to it all’ and making sure he’s strong emotionally, physically, and spiritually for his next battle with the disease.

When you see people go through cancer, you think, ‘Oh, I could never do that. That just seems so horrible.’ And then you’re given the cancer diagnosis, and the fear is just overwhelming, it’s just on you. And then at some point, it flips, and you become really engaged and really strong, courageous, and you have a purpose and a clarity of mission. And something inside of you is awakened that you didn’t know was there.”

He went on to say: “I’ve got kids, I’ve got a wife and a family to support. And I’ve got responsibilities that are right now. The key is to get another day out of this life, to get another cuddle with my little one, to get another meaningful conversation with my older ones — and to be there for my wife. A day is a day. I want more of those.”

Scott premiered a docuseries on May 2nd with People/Entertainment Weekly Network, or PEN that will highlight some of his journey so far, as well as his latest diagnosis. It started off as a single interview but grew into a docuseries after the views online skyrocketed. Scott has people all over the world cheering him on, and it’s not on the ice – not in a rink. It’s because of who he is as a person, it’s on his journey through life, and through disease.

You can read this article and visit this website to find out more and to watch his docuseries. It’s hard not to be inspired by Scott Hamilton. We wish him all the best.
