SDCC 2018: ‘Annabelle 3’ Announced!

San Diego Comic-Con kicked off with a thrill on Wednesday night at New Line Cinema’s block of ScareDiego! First, attendees were treated to some exclusive footage of Andy Muschetti’s It: Chapter Two, which apparently was extremely well receieved with fans praising both the adult cast and Bill Hader’s take on adult Richie Hozier.

They also showed off footage from upcoming horror films The Nun, which is out Sept. 7, as well as The Curse of La Llorona, which hits theaters on April 19, 2019. Most importantly though, Conjuring director James Wan announced that everyone’s favorite possessed doll Annabelle would be coming back for another movie!

Wan revealed that Annabelle 3 would find the terrifying doll setting her eyes on The Conjuring’s Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren’s ten-year-old daughter. On top of that, the doll will also bring some of the other evil items the Warren’s possess to life – think a horror version of Night at the Museum.  It will be the third chapter in the Annabelle franchise coming after Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation. Annabelle 3 will be written and directed by Gary Dauberman, who wrote the two previous movies and The Nun.

And she really awakens the evil within that room and they target the Warrens’ 10-year-old daughter, Judy. So, that’s the set-up,” Dauberman told the crowd.[/row]

The first Annabelle movie was an unprecedented horror movie success bringing in $$257 million worldwide and granting it a sequel. The follow-up Annabelle: Creation managed to surpass its predecessor with over $306 million. So, while it’s not surprising that Annabelle 3 has been greenlit, it was the perfect news to kick off the con!

Annabelle 3 will be hitting theaters on July 3, 2019!
