‘Series of Unfortunate Events’ sets a Premiere Date for Season 3

Dear reader, it pains me to announce that you might want to save your well-wishes and resolutions for a different new year. 2019 is going to kick off on an unfortunate note.

Netflix has saved the worst for last. The final season of  Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will drop January 1st, 2019.

Season 3 will feature the final four books of the series: The Slippery SlopeThe Grim GrottoThe Penultimate Peril, and The End. Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Presley Smith return as the Baudelaire orphans along with Neil Patrick Harris’ Count Olaf and Patrick Warburton’s Lemony Snicket.

“All will be revealed,” Olaf and Snicket say in a teaser video. “The fate of the Baudelaire heirs and the truth behind the letters VFD.”

Showrunner Barry Sonnenfeld promises that season 3 will be “the most emotional season yet… It’s got a lot of action, and the kids have become much more proactive and less victims.” He also commented on that the open ending to the book series will be handled differently. “When you see ‘The End’, you’ll think that it’s what Daniel always had in mind, though it’s not. It wraps up in such a strong way that you may think we came up with the idea at the beginning of the first season.”

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3 will premiere January 1st, 2019 on Netflix.
