Shaun White Wins Record-Breaking Olympic Gold in Halfpipe

It comes as no surprise that fans of Shaun White are still feeling the joy of his massive achievement at the 2018 Winter Olympics. During qualifiers, it was clear that Shaun came to win, the games were his. As he stood upon the podium having won first place with a score of 97.75, well, all the hard work he put in officially paid off.

His final run looked effortless as he executed tricks that made us hold our breath.

After the win, Shaun told NBC that he feels overwhelmed by it. However, as we all saw, it was the breathtaking kind of overwhelmed, the kind he worked so hard for.

‘I just felt so overwhelmed. People talking about my age, my injury in New Zealand … It’s all worth it now.’

He went on to say, at a press conference, that being able to find the love and passion of the sport again is what really means the most to him.

‘It just means the world to me to come back from the defeat at Sochi to find the love and passion of those sport again and be able to deliver a run like this.’

The joy on his face and tears in his eyes as he hugged his family, specifically his mother and father, said it all. He was overjoyed at the redemption he sought and most definitely earned. In fact, his dad told reporters he’d never seen Shaun cry before.

Earlier in the week, he said that just being at the 2018 Winter Olympics was a win because no matter what, he’s got a life that he loves and he knows in his heart that this sport has given him so much to be passionate about and thankful for. He followed that up with a simple ‘…but I want to win.’

We were hoping for that, too.
