Shawn Levy: ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 is ‘Big and Spooky.’

It’s a long way before the third season of Stranger Things will hit Netflix, but that doesn’t mean that the executive producers can’t make use excited. On Sunday, the cast and crew came together at the Dolby Theatre for PaleyFest and gave us some insight of what is to come in the third season.

EW was on the red carpet, right before the event took place, and they got to talk to Shawn Levy. This is what he had to say about the third season:

“It’s very much the Stranger Things I think people know and love. It’s big and spooky. Season 3 has legitimately creepy moments and events, but it’s incredibly warm and character-based because, at the end of the day, I think that’s what people love most about Stranger Things.”

He also said that the other two seasons all took place through the school year. He mentioned that for the third season, it would take place in the summer.

“Unlike the previous seasons which took place during the school year, season 3 will be entirely set in the summer: think bonfires, the Fourth of July, and young love. “Mike and Eleven and are going strong, so that’s a relationship that continues, and same with Mad Max and Lucas. But again, they’re like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships, and there’s fun to that instability.”

Levy did confirm during the panel that they would start filming this month. Exciting times for the Stranger Things fans, this means we can expect some sneak peeks from the third season!
