Considering how often I have written about the Snyder Cut, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of typing the words “we have received a brand new look at the Snyder Cut” because, you guessed it, we keep getting more and more.
Today we received a new look at Superman. Most of the images we have received over the past few months have focused heavily on the other members of the Justice League. So, to receive an image like this is an incredibly pleasant surprise. It also helps clear up quite a bit.
During the filming of Justice League, Henry Cavill posted this on his Instagram:
This image seemingly confirmed the appearance of an incredibly iconic suit. When Superman is killed by Doomsday in the comics and animated film, he dons a black suit and silver emblem- also known as the Recovery Suit. Many fans were confused when the suit didn’t appear in the film.
in 2018, we then received a deleted scene that shows Clark entering his Fortress of Solitude to pick up a brand new suit. As Clark strolls through the alien ship, a mechanical suit becomes visible and then the black suit reveals itself. However, the image shared by Henry heavily implied that Superman would be wearing it.
So what happened?
Zack Snyder finally shared an image of Henry Cavill wearing the suit.
According to Snyder, via his Vero account, the suit was meant to be black for the entirety of his cut. In the following two Justice League movies, Superman was meant to go on some form of journey which would eventually see him return to his iconic colours of red and blue. We’re not entirely sure what that journey would incorporate but I can imagine it being fairly epic.
Now, this raises quite a few questions. If the suit was black, why was Cavill always wearing the traditional suit on set?
This is where speculation comes into play and it is a dangerous path to walk along. Here are a few ideas:
- The suit would be edited in post production- possibly to avoid spoilers.
- The theatrical cut of Justice League cut out more of Zack’s original plan.
- The image has been edited- I don’t really believe this one but it’s a theory floating around online.
Without confirmation it really is hard to confirm what the original plan was.
But what do you think of this brand new image? Let us know in the comments below and don’t forget to share with #releasethesnydercut
