Sony and Marvel Reconcile for More Spider-Man

Sony and Marvel are getting back in the swing of things! The two film companies have reconciled their contractual differences and will be moving forward together to create another Spider-Man film.

According to Variety, the two companies signed a deal late on Thursday evening and made a joint announcement Friday morning delighting Spidey fans around the world. The studios will work together to produce another Spider-Man film within the Homecoming universe with Tom Holland wielding the webs once more.

Marvel head Kevin Feige said in a statement:

[row]“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”[/row]

Sony’s chief communications officer Robert Lawson echoed Feige’s excitement over the deal. He said:

[row]“We have had a great collaboration over the last four years, and our mutual desire to continue was equal to that of the many fans. We are delighted to be moving forward together.”[/row]

Sony also took to Twitter to make a simple yet exciting statement. They sent out a tweet of a spider emoji. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

Back in August, the studios announced their departure from each other after contract negotiations went south, and the companies were unable to come to a mutual agreement. The news was met with an outcry from disappointed fans that Spidey would no longer be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, the new agreement will allow for Spidey to swing again.

The next Spider-Man film is set to be released on July 16, 2021.
