Star Wars: John Boyega Describes Losing Script That Sold On eBay

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters on December 20 and John Boyega visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to reflect on his Star Wars success, favorite memories, and explains how he nearly spoiled the film when his script ended up on eBay.

This past week, director J.J. Abrams revealed that an actor had lost a script for The Rise of Skywalker that ended up on the auction site, eBay.  The script was posted by a cleaning person who discovered the script after it had been left behind and under a mattress.  Abrams voiced his displeasure in the incident but fortunately a Disney lawyer saw the post and purchased the script before it could end up in the wrong hands.

Ending the speculation as to which actor was the culprit, Boyega took to social media and announced to the world that he was the one who had lost the script.  Boyega hid the script under the mattress while living at one of the filming locations.  When filming was over, Boyega simply forgot that the script was under the mattress when he moved.

On his Tonight Show appearance, Boyega said, “I think they were basing the price on my name being on the pages, not on it being a Star Wars script, and I don’t think the person ever read the pages.  They just thought that it was something cool, tried to sell it online to make a few bucks.”

He then recited a call from his agent, saying, “Mate, I’ve just received a call from Disney and all the big gods of the movie industry that you work for, that your livelihood comes from, saying that you lost the most powerful script in Hollywood right now.”

“Let’s just say they will never work with me again,” laughing, said Boyega.
