Firestarter is about a young girl, named Charlie, who develops pyrokinetic abilities, meaning she can start fires with her mind. She is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powers as a weapon.

Goldsman is better known as a screenwriter and has written many films including A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, I Am Legend, and another Stephen King adaptation, The Dark Tower, due this summer. Goldsman made his directorial debut with 2014’s Winter Tale.

Blumhouse Productions has brought us films like The Paranormal Activity Series, Insidious, Whiplash, Split and Get Out. Blumhouse also has a first-look production deal with Universal.

Jason Blum, of Blumhouse, made the announcement at the  Overlook Film Festival in Mt. Hood, Oregon, at a screening of Goldsman’s new film, Stephanie.
