Supergirl: Melissa Benoist Reportedly Won’t Return Again as Supergirl for Future Episodes

Supergirl has flown as far as she could.  CW is cancelling the show after Season 6.  This sixth season will be the end for one of the Arrowverse’s main shows. Once the final season airs, it’s being reported that it’s star, Melissa Benoist, isn’t interested in dawning the cape ever again.

According to the report, “once the series finale airs, Benoist has no intentions of ever suiting up again. According to our intel, the actress wants to distance herself from the Arrowverse to avoid being typecast and will look to forge ahead with her career outside the confines of The CW.”

“In fact, she’s reportedly actively looking to secure roles in big budget movies or premium TV shows in order to take the next step beyond Supergirl and as such, isn’t interested in returning to the franchise again. Which means that fans should make the most of this last batch of episodes as they’ll likely be the last time Benoist is seen as the hero.”

The final season will consist of 20 episodes, filming in Vancouver.  The show originally aired on CBS before it was cancelled there and then picked up for seasons two through five on the CW. At the end of Season 5, Lex Luthor defeated Leviathan and was on a mission to conquer the world.

Season 5 of Supergirl starred Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair, and David Harewood, with special guest star Jon Cryer. The show is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller, and Rob Wright.

  1. Honestly the show became to political for me so stopped watching it.. so really don’t care if they never make another episode!!!

  2. Too many super people on Supergirl. She should have been the only one. Never liked the new Jimmy Olson.

  3. Though fans may be upset…it’s the “logical” move for an acting career. Maybe if she can land a big feature or premium cable show, she’d be more willing to return down the road…maybe for “ Flash” series finale ( likely in 3 years if actor contract talks work out)

Even Stephen Amell, who said he was done after season 8…did semi seriously (spoke directly to Berlanti) offer to suit up again for a short “Arrow” season to help the a Berlanti DC shows get over the pandemic shutdown if it went on long enough ( easier for him to return to Vancouver as he’s Canadian vs other stars of DC shows). Never say never…

  4. Sucks that we will not see that radiant, super smiling face in a cape again. But I understand her decision. Still sucks though.

  5. I would not put to much stock in this article, why would a source give this info out before the actress does or give any interview. Its way to early even for her to make such a decision.
