Telltale Games Set to Upgrade
Telltale games was huge over five years ago when the company started taking more serious subject matter in the form of The walking Dead. Their visual art style and game design were impeccable at the time, built from a point-and-click adventure point of view.
Season one of the game won various awards and had Telltale recognized as a multi-million selling provider. Over the years, the games began to show their age and gamers began to note how dated these games looked. The good news is that Telltale is starting to make major changes which will be quite obvious in the next generation of games produced.
Reports disclosed that Pete Hawley, the new CEO stepping into Telltale would also take the company into a new direction in how they produce games. Telltale is expected to ditch their old Telltale Tools and switch engines over to the Unity 3D game engine.
Sources explained that it will take some time for Telltale to get used to the workflow provided by the Unity 3D game engine. One of the major reasons for the change is tied to the company’s recent ties with Netflix.
The streaming deal essentially goes two ways as Telltales is expected to be producing a new game based on Netflix’s hit series, Stranger Things. The Unity-style game will debut once the Stranger Things game is released. It’s unclear if Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season will still be running on the Telltale Tool or not. Reports have it that this may be what gamers should expect although it might feature some tweaks to the visuals.
