‘The Division’ Coming To Netflix

After being confirmed almost 3 years ago, the live-action adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Division is being released on Netflix. The news was announced at E3 on Monday at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The film is directed by Deadpool 2‘s David Leitch and stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain. Apart from that, not much is actually known about the film itself.

Netflix have released a synopsis of the adaptation that reads:

In the near future, a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.

Following the success of the first game which became the fastest-selling video game bringing in an estimated $330 million in just 5 days, its no surprise that Ubisoft are using that success to release more content. Not only is there a film coming out, but Ubisoft also released The Division 2 in March.

Of course, with most video game adaptations there needs to be a degree of caution. Video game adaptations haven’t exactly done well with critics and audiences. Jake Gyllenhaal has some experience in this area after Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time wasn’t received well back in 2010.

As of yet, Netflix and Ubisoft have not announced a release date for the film so fans could be waiting a little while longer.
