In the winter finale episode of The Good Doctor, after experiencing a traumatic meltdown, Dr. Shaun Murphy went missing. While his whereabouts will be revealed when the series returns in just a few weeks, series star Freddie Highmore is teasing some more future revelations about his character.
Highmore, who is fresh off of receiving his very first Golden Globe nomination, recently sat for an interview with Extra where he spoke about his newest hit series.
He calls his role on ABC’s The Good Doctor, “a dream,” and expresses that he was in disbelief that this amazing opportunity would come about immediately after wrapping his five-year residency in Bates Motel.
He also spoke about his character, Dr. Shaun Murphy – a young surgical resident with autism and savant syndrome who relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Murphy experiences several challenges when it comes to his surgical career. He finds it difficult to personally connect with those around him but Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues. Of his character, Highmore said:
“What we are trying to do is celebrate Shaun’s unique vision of the world, celebrate the ways in which he thinks differently, and not negate the very real struggles that he faces, but also show you know moments of joy, moments of happiness, of humor and maybe even love.”
Did he just say that LOVE may be in the future for Dr. Shaun Murphy? Is it possible that even more of a relationship will begin to blossom between Shaun and Lea? But, where IS Shaun?
Hopefully, all will be answered when The Good Doctor returns from its winter break at 10 PM EST on January 8th.
