‘The Good Doctor’ Season 2 Filming Begins!

It’s happening! The day is finally here! The Good Doctor cast and crew are officially back on set filming the highly anticipated second season and we can hardly contain our excitement!

On Monday, the band was all back together at the first table read for the upcoming season. Everyone looked happy, excited and ready to get down to business. My, how we’ve missed these faces!

On Wednesday, however, it was time to get to work! Executive producer Sebastian Lee shared a behind-the-scenes photo officially marking the start of filming. Lee posted a photo of camera monitors displaying a scene marker labeled, “The Good Doctor season 2.” He captioned the post, “Happy 1st day of shooting #TheGoodDoctor Season 2!”

Additionally, newly promoted series regular Fiona Gubelmann snapped a shot of the St. Bonaventure Hospital staff’s wardrobe. She captioned her photo, “The Doctors are in!!”

It’s the day fans have been waiting for since the cliffhanger ending of season 1.  At the end of The Good Doctor‘s first season, it was revealed in a shocking twist that Dr. Aaron Glassman (played by Richard Schiff) is suffering from a rare form of cancer, and ultimately is dying. The season’s finale episode centered around Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) refusing to accept the diagnosis and researching how he could save his friend and mentor, by any means possible. Due to Dr. Glassman’s health weighing heavily on Shaun’s mind, becomes distracted during a surgery which leads to a mistake. If Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) gets wind of this error, Shaun risks losing his place in St. Bonaventure. The final scene of the season 1 finale shows Shaun and Dr. Glassman walking into Dr. Andrews’ office together to face their fate.

So far, we know that season 2 of the series will focus on Dr. Shaun Murphy’s challenges at the hospital, as well as on his relationship with his love interest (and returning fan favorite character) Lea (played by Paige Spara). Freddie Highmore has confirmed, however, that Shaun’s relationship with Dr. Aaron Glassman is really the heart of the season two storyline.

In addition to Highmore, Schiff, Harper, Spara, and Gubelmann, The Good Doctor also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Beau Garrett, Will Yun Lee, and Christina Chang. Lisa Edelstein (House) was recently announced in a recurring role for the second season. The series was created by David Shore who also serves executive producer along with Kim and Lee.

The Good Doctor returns to ABC Monday nights this fall.
