‘The Walking Dead’ Will Return And Won’t Slow Down

Last night’s The Walking Dead mid-season finale left fans with a literal cliffhanger, seeing our group of survivors lead by Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) stuck in a cave and standing on a cliff over a see of walkers. According to Entertainment Weekly’s interview with showrunner, Angela Kang, when the show returns it’s going to pick right back up where it left off and it’s not going to slow down.

Season 10 has been the show’s highest rated season ever, according to Rotten Tomatoes, and fans received another stellar episode with the mid-season finale.  According to Kang,  “We’ve trapped a bunch of people in a cave full of walkers, so we have to tell that story. So, that’s definitely going to be a big part of when we pick back up,” Kang told Entertainment Weekly.

“Obviously, we have Negan embedded with the Whisperers, so we’ll continue to kind of tell the story that’s involved there. And then, not necessarily specific to the episode back, but just as a whole, at this point now some lines have been crossed, right? The border has been crossed by both sides. There have been these acts of war and so things are now escalating very, very fast. And we kind of get to the big conflict between the Whisperers and our people.”

Initial reaction to the episode show that fans were frustrated with Carol’s decision to pursue Alpha without regard to her safety or the safety of others, which is out of character for Carol.  However, this continues to show that Alpha is one step ahead of everyone else with her spies and traps.  Not only is Alpha (Samantha Morton) evil, she’s also highly intelligent.  The Survivors are going to have to start to out-think her if they plan on winning any type of conflict with the Whisperers.

What are your thoughts on the first half of The Walking Dead? Can the Survivors defeat Alpha and the Whisperers?

  1. I can’t say Alpha was intelligent for leading the survivors to the cave trap. Anyone with half a brain cell would know she was leading them into the trap. And Daryl knew this that’s why he screamed at Carol. And on top of that you are going to where your enemy is hiding their biggest weapon…. Hello if not Alpha then you’d know some whisperers would be somewhere in the area. Carol was obviously written to be dumb for this particular moment proof where Kang is making our favorite characters stupid.

If I wanted the survivors to be trapped in a cave I would write it in a way no character would foolishly lead the gang into a trap.

Right now Negan is perhaps the only entertaining character left on this show. At least you know what he is planning going by source material. And to be honest I look forward to Negan and Daryl working together that’s about the only reasonable interesting thing to see at the moment.

  2. This is another example of what I refer to as “smart characters doing stupid things”. They are plot points that certainly could have, and should have, been written better. For the most part, this has been a well written season that has had a logical progression and with characters behaving as you would expect them to. That all seemed to change with episode 10-8. The most frustrating part of this situation is that you can see how some minor plot adjustments would have made the situations more believable. I fell in love with this show with the first episode and worry that poor writing and bad decisions such as killing off Carl, will cause a premature ending to The Walking Dead.

  3. Honestly, every single character who ran into that cave was being dumb. It’s not Carol’s fault they got trapped, too. She can only be blamed for getting herself trapped, but the rest who did exactly what she did (run into a cave that was an obvious trap) only have themselves to blame. Seeing hate for Carol on some pages that’s completely unfounded since she clearly wasn’t the only one not thinking before doing in this situation – they all were.
