There’s now a Real Baby Named Negan
Fans in their numbers and variations are what make anything famous or worth checking out and one such diehard fan definitely outdid himself this time.
A man in Michigan earlier this week made headlines after he named his newborn son Negan after the beefy bat-wielding villain from Robert Kirkman’s ongoing series of books.
Justin, the father of the newborn emphatically wrote in the letters section of The Walking Dead #181 published on July 4th expressing his appreciation to the author for helping him give a powerful and unique name to his baby boy.
I wanted to write in to let ya’ll know that my wife and I named our son Negan. He was just born on April 24th at 7 lbs 15 oz. He is perfectly healthy and strong. I think Negan is a powerful and unique name. Thanks for the inspiration! I can’t believe my wife agreed to it! If only people would realize I named him after this comic and NOT the TV Show…
Sean Mackiewicz, who is an editor to The Walking Dead, quickly submitted his congratulatory message applauding Justin’s wife on being such a good sport and taking up an entirely new name.
This is the first little baby Negan, as far as I’m aware. Congrats on having an awesome wife, congrats on your new son… maybe keep him away from the Louisville Slugger for as long as possible.
Kirkman, who in 2016 said he chose the name “Negan” as it was uncommon and sounded negative, stamped his approval and expressed his joy at the fact of a baby called Negan.
This is the best day of my life. I don’t think I’ve EVER heard of anyone naming their baby Negan! That’s awesome… and questionable parenting right out of the gate! I approve!” he said.
In previous interviews trying to establish his thought process and how he settles on one name, Kirkman revealed he had been calling the character Nagus but it turned out to be the name of the Ferengi leader in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and he then decided on Negan and it stuck. he said it sounded “negative”. Really, it’s just removing a few letters from the word and adding an “N”.
He confirmed that Negan is a first name and joked that Negan’s full name would be “Negan A-hole” in his true fashion of not giving full names to any of his character.
