We are SUPER pumped for the release of Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s Justice League which is hitting theaters this weekend! We can’t wait to see all of our favorite DC superheroes teaming in what’s sure to make for some epic entertainment. Before we run off to the theaters, today is Throwback Thursday and, what better way to celebrate the upcoming film release than with a little throwback to the Justice League animated series which ironically (or perhaps not so ironically) premiered on the Cartoon Network on November 17th, 2001. November 17th just so happens to be the official release date for the new Justice League film as well!
The original series ran until 2004 and was based on the Justice League of America comics. The original series only ran for two seasons before it was replaced by a successor series Justice League Unlimited. This version of the series had an additional three-season run.
The animated series consisted of some seriously super talented voice actors including Kevin Conroy (Batman), Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman), Phil LaMarr (Green Lantern), Carl Lumbly (J’onn J’onzz), George Newbern (Superman), Michael Rosenbaum (The Flash), Maria Canals (Hawkgirl), Mark Hamill (Solomon Grundy) and many others.
The series was created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini and still has one of the most epic theme song openings of any cartoon ever.
