‘Tomb Raider 2’ Confirmed

Despite receiving mixed reviews, last year’s Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, has had a sequel confirmed.

While the first installment made some money, making $274 million at the global box office, I think many people assumed that it didn’t perform well enough to warrant a sequel, but it seems that Warner Bros. still has faith in the tomb raiding heroine.

Warner Bros. have hired writer Amy Jump to start working on the second film. Jump is known for writing films such as Tom Hiddleston’s High Rise and Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire. Now, there would be no point doing a sequel if Vikander wasn’t on board. So fans of the first movie, including myself, will be excited to know that Vikander is indeed returning as the legendary video game character.

Tomb Raider was not a perfect film, however, I do think it was a great introduction to a grittier version of the character that resembles the most recent video games instead of the typical image of Lara Croft. What’s more is that the first film definitely teased more adventures and it would be a shame if we didn’t get to seem them. Now that Lara’s origin has been somewhat covered, I think the prospect of a sequel is incredibly exciting. We could get a lot more of the tomb raiding action perhaps in new environments with bigger threats, and with a combination of aspects from both the traditional Tomb Raider and the new one- remembering that Lara purchased her iconic dual pistols at the end of the first film from Nick Frost’s character. The fact a sequel is in the works is definitely a surprise but I would say it’s a welcomed one.
