Fans just can’t get enough of Baby Groot and, really, who can blame them! The little sapling stole the hearts of movie-goers everywhere back in the 2014 original film and now, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiering this week, everybody wants to own a little Baby Groot of their own! But, how would one care for such a sensitive and adorable creature? Baby Groot seems to be always getting into trouble and, clearly as a mind and a determination all his own.
Last week, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt visited BBC Radio 1 as part of the film’s press tour. While in the studio on The Matt Edmondson Show, Pratt was asked to be a part of the show’s segment called AlphabetiCalls. It’s basically a fun little prank call challenge which the show dishes out to their guests on air. The challenge is to make a prank call regarding a specific topic and to carry out a conversation on that topic. Seems easy enough, right? But wait! Of course, there’s a catch. Each new sentence that the celebrity says has to begin with the next letter of the alphabet, from A all the way to Z!
Edmondson had the perfect GOTG themed challenge all lined up for Pratt. He challenged Pratt to call a local exotic pet shop and ask for care instructions on a stick bug-type pet or, specifically in this case, a pet Baby Groot. Now, as if there isn’t enough pressure associated with making a prank call, asking for care instructions for an animal and pet that doesn’t exist while making all of this up right on the spot, Pratt had the added challenge of talking his way, unnoticed, through the alphabet. Was he able to do it?
Unbeknownst to Pratt, a magical accent comes out of his mouth and he transforms, effortlessly, into an elderly gentlemen from Scotland who is looking for help caring for his stick-bug. Though Pratt ends up throwing a few random sayings in there in order to get through the alphabet, he, pretty much, seamlessly completes the challenge. Surprisingly enough, the pet store representative is unfazed by the call, even when Pratt asks about his stick-bug pet suddenly having the ability to speak to him, saying the words, “I am Groot.” Even when Pratt flat out mentioned the title of the film, Guardians of the Galaxy, to the pet shop rep and she confirmed she was familiar with the film and had just watched it the night before, she still kept her chill throughout the entire duration of the strange call.
Pratt’s prank call skills are clearly at master level! Check out the video of Chris Pratt’s AlphabetiCall below. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on Friday, May 5th!
