Even from the beginning, Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman’s on-screen bond was evident.

Obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the audition clip shows Keen and Jackman rehearsing the scene in Logan where her character, X23, speaks for the first time. Sir Patrick Stewart even stated that the young actress asked director James Mangold if she could improvise the scene, doing so in English and Spanish. View the NSFW (for language) clip below:

Although Keen holds her own in both the audition and the film, Hugh Jackman admitted to the publication that he felt nervous about centering the movie around a child actor. “How do you have an 11-year-old character who doesn’t speak in 90 pages? How does that happen? Who’s going to be playing it? [James Mangold] sent me a tape. Actually, it was just a still of an audition room somewhere. You could just tell by the look on her face. I was like, ‘Holy s—. This is something.'”

Logan will be released on digital HD tomorrow and on Blu-Ray/DVD May 23rd.
