Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman held its premiere on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, and film star Jason Momoa, along with his family and friends, brought an extra level of excitement and intensity to the red carpet (or, in this case, the blue carpet).
Momoa, alongside his children, fellow cast members, and friends, performed a ceremonial Haka at the film’s premiere. The Haka is a traditional Maori war dance which is also a sign of deep respect. The cultural dance became a viral sensation when it was performed during a wedding ceremony, moving the bride to tears.
Momoa’s Justice League costar Ray Fisher was on hand when the ceremonial dance began and he captured his friend leading the chant.

Not only was tonight the U.S. premiere of Aquaman, but it most likely was Momoa’s first time watching the film in its entirety. In a recent interview, Momoa admitted that he had not yet seen the film for a very heartwarming reason – he was waiting to watch it with his children, who can be seen in the video performing Haka right along with their dad. In the interview, Momoa said, “I’m waiting for my babies. I’m going to wait. It’s going to be amazing. My kids have never been to an IMAX theater. They’ve never seen anything this big, and I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like for them or what it’s going to be like for me, so just to be sitting next to them…”
What a way to introduce them to the film and to an IMAX experience!
In addition to Momoa, the film also stars Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as the villainous Orm/Ocean Master), Temuera Morrison (as Tom Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus) and Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko).
Aquaman is directed by James Wan. Peter Safran is producing along with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.
The official film synopsis reads as follows:
Aquaman will splash down into theaters on December 21, 2018, and you can watch the full version of Momoa’s Haka performance below.
