Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman is gearing up to make some waves at the box office this December and, so far, looks to be one of the most visually stunning and cinematographically beautiful films that we’ve seen yet from the studio. Ahead of the film’s release, a brand new featurette is giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how some of that stunning movie magic was made.
For such a striking and eye-catching film, it’s surprising to see just how much of the film’s action appears to have been shot using practical effects and lots and lots of actual water. Director James Wan, film star Jason Momoa as well as members of the starring cast narrate the below video which breaks down some kick-ass action sequences and gives us a new glimpse at Aquaman‘s underwater world.
Check out the captivating featurette below.
Momoa reprises his role in the DC Universe as Arthur Curry (aka. Aquaman, half-human, half-Atlantean and King of the Seven Seas, ruler of Atlantis). The film also stars Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as the villainous Orm/Ocean Master), Temuera Morrison (as Tom Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus) and Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko).
James Wan, best known for his background in the horror genre, particularly for his work on The Conjuring and Insidious films, is directing the film. This is Wan’s first dip into the superhero world. He also directed Furious 7which ended up being the top grossing film of the Fast and Furious franchise. Peter Safran is producing along with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.
The official film synopsis reads as follows:
Aquaman will splash down into theaters on December 21, 2018.
