Who is STILL reeling from the Season 4 finale of Orange is the New Black (OITNB)?

For those of you not caught up with Season 4 yet, you might want to stop reading any further.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Season 4 of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series left us utterly heartbroken after the death of Poussey Washington played brilliantly by Samira Wiley. While it gave us many comical moments throughout the season, the episode titled “The Animals” had me sobbing like a baby. Wiley’s portrayal of a loving, bright-eyed, hopeful inmate who had so much to offer generated a profound loss for not only viewers, but also it was the spark that ignited a riot among her fellow inmates. Although, there was trouble already brewing throughout the season, her death was the last straw in an already tense environment. The final scene showed Dayanara ‘Daya’ Diaz (Dascha Polanco) aiming a gun at CO Humphrey (Michael Torpey) with the rest of the inmates urging her to pull the trigger. Were you also yelling at your screen, “Don’t do it Daya!” Talk about leaving us wanting more. As season finales go, this one was awesome!

Polanco’s character represented goodness just as Wiley’s did. Both were victims of ill-fated events and were doing their best to endure a ruthless situation. I am hoping Daya did not kill CO Humphrey, and it’s not because I felt bad for this character, who was really awful by the way! It is because it would forever ruin her chances of getting out, being with her child, and irrevocably take what little innocence she had remaining.

Tasha ‘Taystee’ Jefferson (Danielle Brooks) is another character that I have been rooting for from day one. I worry that her character’s heart, hope, and goofiness that somehow survived in prison might be forever gone after the chaos of the finale. The grief from losing her best friend could possibly have pushed her over the edge and may cause some major regrets after the dust settles.

Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren (Uzo Aduba) is another poor soul who was dealing with her friend’s death in her own way. She had attempted to understand what Poussey might have experienced by weighing herself down with every book she could get her hands on. This eventually lands her in the medical ward, where they put her next to Maureen Kukudio (Emily Althaus) who was still recovering from their fight.

Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) and Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) have reunited. However, each are dealing with the repercussions of their prior activities. Piper realizes the brutality of prison especially after her encounter with Maria Ruiz (Jessica Pimentel) and her crew, while Alex struggles with her murderous secret.

In the midst of the all the turmoil, one positive moment to note was between Gloria Mendoza (Selenis Leyva) and Sophia Burset (Laverne Cox). These two were finally able to take a small step in overcoming what they did to each other. Sophia returned from maximum security and Gloria helped her put back her wig in a touching moment.

The season left us wondering about the fates of all our unfortunate inmates, guards, and Litchfield itself. The bright side? The wait is almost over! Netflix has just released photos and a Season 5 clip in anticipation of its premiere. The new season will take place in real time and over the course of three days, picking up from where we left our characters in the finale. Below are some newly released images that provide a glimpse into the aftermath of last season.
